Might have missed a year in there somewhere.
Maybe an alligator ate my website motivation? In any case, this fine specimen which resides nearby ate something.

It’s not the first encounter of two of these things, but the images from 2024 just didn’t get off the memory card or post themselves. Then there were other interruptions like work, and another hurricane, and so on.

This was during a walk on New Year’s Day 2025. I got the image from about 30 feet, where this thing usually catches some sun on a tiny island in a retention pond. When I cropped in I could see what are obviously some feathers. Now if you look at this image, you can’t un-see the expression of “What are you looking at?”

I can’t be absolutely certain but seeing this made me think of this awesome blue heron which my wife and I spotted on another walk through the area. This image was taken in March 2024.
There are two alligators making regular appearances in this nature area, a ‘small’ one and the ‘big’ one. This is Florida and pretty much there are alligators everywhere. However, there is a difference between knowing there are alligators and seeing one … right over there.

Now more than ever I am so thankful for having added telephoto lenses to my gear collection. That’s close enough, thank you.
This nature area isn’t all about the alligators, there are plenty of other interesting things to see.
